Avian influenza viruses are influenza A viruses, which are most commonly found in birds, but some types can also infect mammals such as pigs, horses, seals and whales, as well as humans. Influenza A viruses are named after the hemagglutinin (H) and neuraminidase (N) on the surface of the virus, of which there are 16 subtypes of H and 9 subtypes of N. Influenza A H15 viruses are members of a subgroup (H7-H10-H15) of group 2 HA subtypes.
