Avibacterium paragallinarum PCR Kit Development

Avibacterium paragallinarum (historically called Hemophilus paragallinarum), is the primary pathogen of infectious coryza (IC) in chickens, which is an acute respiratory disease. A. paragallinarum is a fastidious gram-negative, non-motile, pleomorphic bacterium of the Pasteurellaceae family, which can be divided into three serovars: A, B and C. Several factors are responsible for the pathogenicity of A. paragallinarum. Among them, hemagglutinin (HA) has been regarded as most key virulent factor because of its participation in tissue adhesion. Typical clinical symptoms of IC include ocular discharge, sinusitis and rhinitis, "swollen head" and anorexia have also been reported. IC affects chickens worldwide because it is highly contagious, resulting in poor growth in young birds and reduced egg production in laying hens. The main preventive strategies are management and sound biosecurity measures combined with appropriate vaccination. Outbreaks of IC have been reported in broilers, layer pullets and laying hens, causing significant production losses.

Avibacterium paragallinarum PCR Kit Development

Because of its fastidious nature, A. paragallinarum is difficult to recover and identify, particularly from locations colonized by normal bacterial flora. However, with the development of the biotechnology, A. paragallinarum can be detected through conventional culture examination, post-mortem examination, biochemical identification, conventional PCR and real-time PCR. For preventing the economic losses associated with the IC, an early, accurate and rapid diagnosis is essential. PCR is a rapid and highly sensitive diagnostic technique which can substitute conventional cultural examination.
