Bordetella avium (B. avium) is an aerobic or facultative anaerobic fermentative Gram-negative bacillus belonging to the genus Bordetella. B. avium infection causes a highly contagious avian upper respiratory disease that is widespread in wild and domesticated birds in many countries, causing significant economic losses to the poultry industry. Commercial turkeys being the largest host of B. avium, and the incidence of B. avium infection in turkeys is high, but the mortality rate is less than 10%.

Currently, a variety of methods have been developed for the identification of B. aviums, including agglutination tests, fluorescent antibody techniques, isolation, agar gel precipitin tests, and indirect ELISA. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, such as time-consuming steps, low sensitivity, complex operation and poor antibody specificity. Monoclonal antibodies can specifically recognize antigens on the surface of pathogens and have a high sensitivity, which has an irreplaceable role in the detection of pathogenic microorganisms. Therefore, ELISA kits based on monoclonal antibodies are widely used in the diagnosis and prevention of B. avium infections.
BioVenic is a provider of biology reagents & kits, which has been committed to the development of animal pathogen diagnostic reagents for many years.
