Caseous Lymphadenitis ELISA Kit Development

Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis is a Gram-positive, facultative anaerobic, pleomorphic intracellular microorganism. It causes caseous lymphadenitis (CLA) in sheep and goats, which is characterized by chronic suppurative inflammation. This disease can stun sheep growth, reduce reproductive rates, and affects meat quality and milk production. CLA occurs around the world and has a high prevalence. Once the disease occurs in sheep, it is difficult to eradicate and seriously endangers sheep production on a large scale and is one of the major causes of economic losses in sheep farming.

Caseous Lymphadenitis ELISA Kit Development

Currently, the diagnosis of CLA in small ruminants is based on characteristic clinical symptoms and microbial identification of Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis in abscess sites. However, the diagnosis of asymptomatic animals is crucial for effective control of CLA, since infected animals without obvious symptoms are a source of infection for healthy animals. Serological assays, particularly enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), can be effective in detecting cases of CLA (asymptomatic or non-symptomatic). Researchers have developed a series of ELISA kits that are highly sensitive, reproducible and diagnostically efficient for different antigens.
