Mycoplasma gallisepticum PCR Kit Development

Mycoplasma gallisepticum is a bacterium belonging to the class Mollicutes and the family Mycoplasmataceae. It is the pathogen of chronic respiratory disease in chickens and infectious sinusitis in turkeys, chickens, game birds, pigeons, and passerine birds. Mycoplasma gallisepticum attach to host epithelial cells, such as in the respiratory tract, which causes cell damage and inflammatory response.M. gallisepticum can survive in the environment for up to 2 months depending on the conditions. This enables transmission via dust, drinking water and food as well as by direct contact with an infected bird. Some major clinical signs of infection of M. gallisepticumin chickens include those of respiratory distress such as coughing, sneezing, rales, and difficulty breathing.M. gallisepticum can also lead to poor productivity, leg problems, stunting, inappetence, slow growth, reduced hatchability and reduced chick viability, which cause significant economic losses to the poultry industry every year.

Mycoplasma gallisepticum PCR Kit Development

In order to reduce susceptibility to M. gallisepticum infection and prevent economic losses, vaccination of poultry with M. gallisepticum live vaccines is the most common method. Nevertheless, recurring M. gallisepticum outbreaks necessitated the implementation of rapid and accurate detection of the pathogens. With various biotechnologies being developed, molecular biology techniques are currently used for a rapid detection of M. gallisepticum such as different PCR techniques. Among them, duplex real-time TaqMan PCR is the most widely used because of its high sensitivity and high efficiency.
