Infectious Laryngotracheitis Virus PCR Kit Development

Infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) is an acute and contagious respiratory disease of chickens. Gallid alpha herpesvirus type 1 (GaHV-1), an enveloped DNA virus is regarded to be the pathogen that cause ILT. Therefore, GaHV-1 is also known as infectious laryngotracheitis virus (ILTV), which is usually spread by infected birds and formites. The main symptoms of infectious laryngotracheitis are severe dyspnea, coughing and rales. Gasping, coughing bloody mucoid exudate, rattling, and extension of the neck could been seen after natural exposure in acute forms. Infectious laryngotracheitis is also reported as a subacute disease characterized by symptoms like tracheitis, nasal and ocular discharge, conjunctivitis, and mild rales. Infectious laryngotracheitis has an overall mortality rate of 5–70% and thus causes immense economic impact in the global poultry industry every year.

Infectious Laryngotracheitis Virus PCR Kit Development

To control infectious laryngotracheitis, ensuring biosecurity and vaccination have been proved to be the main methods. Meanwhile, accurate and rapid detection of infectious laryngotracheitis virus is also of great importance, which is traditionally realized by histopathologic examination of trachea tissue. However, with the rapid development of molecular biology and biotechnology, various PCR techniques have been reported, such as real-time PCR, TaqMan real-time PCR, conventional PCR, qPCR, multiplex real-time RT-PCR and singleplex RT-PCR. These PCR methods are widely used in the rapid detection of infectious laryngotracheitis virus, monitoring and evaluation of treatment efficacy, and detection of infectious agents due to their high sensitivity, good specificity, fast speed and high efficiency.
