Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae ELISA Kit Development

Mycoplasma is a member of the family Mycoplasmataceae, and is the smallest known self-replicating pathogen, differing from other genera in that it has no cell wall. Porcine endemic pneumonia (PEP) is a common infectious disease in the pig industry caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (Mhyo) infection. It has high incidence and low mortality rate, mainly resulting in reduced feed conversion rate and prolonged slaughter time, causing huge economic losses to the global pig industry. Therefore, the establishment of accurate, sensitive and rapid Mhyo detection methods can help to understand the circulation of Mhyo in swine herds, so that corresponding preventive, curative and integrated control measures can be taken, which is crucial to improve Mhyo infection.

Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae ELISA Kit Development

The diagnosis of Mhyo infection can be achieved by bacterial isolation, molecular identification and serological testing. Among them, bacterial isolation is considered as the "gold standard" for the diagnosis of Mhyo in pigs, but Mhyo is one of the most difficult mycoplasmas to cultivate. During isolation, Mhyo requires high maintenance of culture medium, long isolation time, low isolation rate, and is often contaminated by Mycoplasma hyorrhea and Mycoplasma flocculents. Although PCR can distinguish Mhyo from Mycoplasma hyorrhea and Mycoplasma flocculents in PEP samples, but this method is too expensive and sample collection can be challenging. ELISA is commonly used to diagnose Mhyo infection in pigs because of its simplicity, easy programming and ability to detect large numbers of samples.
