Eastern equine encephalitis is a sporadic but severe infection that frequently leads to fatal brain inflammation, known as encephalitis. This disease is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito carrying the Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus (EEEV). EEEV can also infect various animals such as mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. This virus is categorized as an alphavirus within the Togaviridae family and possesses a single-stranded positive-sense RNA genome.
