Bacillus cereus is a Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacterium typically present in soil, food, and marine sponges. Depending on the strain, it can be either aerobic or facultatively anaerobic. This bacterium is pathogenic to a variety of aquatic animal species. Due to its widespread presence in the environment, it frequently acts as a common contaminant in milk. Clostridium perfringens is a fast-growing pathogen renowned for secreting over 20 virulent toxins. This bacterium is commonly found in soil and the gastrointestinal tracts of animals. It is distinguished by its capacity to produce powerful exotoxins, with some causing specific enterotoxemias. Aeromonas hydrophila is a heterotrophic, Gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium predominantly found in warm climates. This bacterium acts as an opportunistic pathogen in humans, causing both extraintestinal and intestinal infections, and also poses a threat to animals, leading to infections in fish, amphibians, and mammals. Campylobacter species are commonly found in a variety of warm-blooded animals, including food-producing animals like poultry, cattle, pigs, sheep, and ostriches, as well as in pets such as cats and dogs.
