Bordetella petrii is a species within this genus that can be found in various environments, including human hosts. It is capable of growing under aerobic conditions and adapting to diverse environmental settings. Notably, Bordetella petrii contains the largest number of significant genomic islands, known collectively as integrative and conjugative elements.
