Coccidioides immitis is a pathogenic fungus found in the soil of certain regions in the southwestern United States, northern Mexico, and a few other areas in the Western Hemisphere. It is known to cause coccidioidomycosis, also referred to as valley fever. While dogs are the most severely affected by this disease, Coccidioides immitis can also infect a variety of other species, including horses, cattle, and other livestock.
