Histoplasmosis is a chronic, non-contagious, widespread granulomatous infection affecting humans and other animals, caused by the dimorphic fungus Histoplasma capsulatum. This fungus is found globally, except in Antarctica, and is most commonly associated with river valleys. It predominantly occurs in the Central and Eastern United States, followed by regions in Central and South America, and various other parts of the world.
