Details:

The prion protein is a membrane-bound glycoprotein primarily composed of an α-helix structure. In contrast, the infectious prion protein exhibits a beta-sheet configuration. Diseases associated with prions are lethal neurodegenerative disorders known as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies. Scrapie, a prion disease affecting sheep, has been present in sheep populations for nearly 300 years. Despite extensive research, there is no evidence to suggest that scrapie prions can infect humans.
