Details:
Shigella flexneri is a species of Gram-negative bacteria within the genus Shigella. This rod-shaped bacterium lacks flagella and utilizes actin-based motility. It rapidly and continuously produces the protein actin to propel itself within and between host cells. Among nonhuman primates, Rhesus macaques are the only animals in which Shigella infection closely mirrors the disease observed in humans.
