Bovine CD Marker Antibodies

Originally defined as molecules present on the cell surface of leukocytes and recognized by specific antibody molecules, CD antigens now also include some intracellular molecules and molecules present on cells other than leukocytes. Since 1992, eight meetings of the International Leukocyte Differentiation Antigen Collaborative Group have been held, and the membrane molecules recognized by monoclonal antibodies from different laboratories have been unified and named as CD antigens. The nomenclature is as follows.

i) Two or more monoclonal antibodies that recognize the same antigen are used as an antibody group, and each antibody group is represented by a number, such as CD3, CD20, etc.

ii) When different antigenic determinants exist on the same CD and can be recognized by specific monoclonal antibodies, the CD numbers are followed by lowercase letters to distinguish them, such as CD1 can be divided into CD1a, CD1b, CD1c and CD1d.

iii) When CD numbers are followed by a capital letter "R", it means that the CD is only found on a specific type of cell, e.g. CD45 is a common antigen of leukocytes, while CD45R is a membrane antigen found only on monocytes, macrophages, B lymphocytes and some T lymphocytes.

Bovine CD Marker Antibodies

CD molecules are commonly used as cell markers for the identification and isolation of leukocyte populations, subpopulations and differentiation stages. The following table shows several common bovine CD markers. Monoclonal antibodies against these molecules have proven essential in biomedical research and diagnostics as well as in biotechnology.

Type Description
CD4 / CD8 For the study of T lymphocytes in flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and immunoprecipitation.
CD63 Expressed on activated platelets, monocytes and dendritic cell subsets in dairy cows.
CD172a Expressed on a subset of monocytes and afferent lymphoid shroud cells.
CD25 A ~55 kDa glycoprotein also known as Interleukin-2 receptor alpha chain, expressed by activated T cells.
CD40 A 260 amino acid single pass type 1 transmembrane glycoprotein, expressed by B lymphocytes and a subset of T lymphocytes.
CD335 A type I transmembrane protein, expressed on bovine NK cells.
