Cluster of differentiation (CD) refers specifically to antigens or antigen-recognized antibodies on leukocyte membranes, also known as leukocyte differentiation antigens. Most of them are transmembrane proteins or glycoproteins on the cell membrane. Currently, CD not only represents leukocyte surface antigens, but also erythrocyte, platelet and myeloid cell surface antigens, as well as other tissue cell surface or cell content antigens. CD markers are usually used as cell markers for immune antigen recognition, and the most commonly used ones are CD4 (a marker for helper T cells) and CD8 (a marker for cytotoxic T cells).
